Experienced in the trade since 1987, Shayne Newman founded YardScapes in 1990 and holds the title of president. He is originally from Telluride, Colorado, but has lived in New Milford for the past 30+ years. Shayne received a B.S. in Finance from UCONN, is a Landscape Industry Certified Technician, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, holds a Connecticut Supervisory Pesticide License, and is a Certified Landscape Designer.
In 2020, Shayne was elected to serve as President of the National Association of Landscape Professionals Board of Directors for the 1-year term.
Shayne never imagined that when he started YardScapes 30+ years ago that he would be sitting on the board of a national trade association representing over 1 MILLION landscape industry professionals from the US, Canada and overseas. At the same time, it’s not surprising at all. Shayne has always had the best intentions for his company and has fostered an incredible company culture for both staff and clients. Including being a board member of a national organization, locally, he has also served as a board member of: Community Culinary School of Northwest CT, Pratt Nature Center, as well as Village Center for the Arts.
Always involved in the community, Shayne created and hosts the YardScapes Quad-Am Golf Classic, that has raised over $110,000 for area nonprofits since 2006. Additionally, YardScapes has participated in an annual Day of Service, volunteering time and materials to revitalize civic venues including The Town of New Milford, The Pratt Nature Center, Harrybrooke Park, Sullivan Farm, the Brookfield Public Library, The Children’s Center, the Abbey of Regina Laudis, Sarah Noble Intermediate School, and Steep Rock Association.
Shayne was featured on FOX News for his participation in Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops, the cover of the January 2007 issue of Lawn & Landscape Magazine for his business innovations, and Total Landscape Care as 2011’s Landscaper of the Year finalist.
The Connecticut affiliate of the American Psychological Association honored Shayne with two of its five 2008 Psychologically Healthy Work Place Awards: Employee Growth and Development and Employee Recognition. He received awards alongside Pratt & Whitney and Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camp.
YardScapes is the recipient of 2011’s New Milford Chamber of Commerce Big Business Award.
He enjoys time with his three daughters, Liliana, Marlee and Ava and is particularly fond of their bulldog Ralphie, whom he welcomed to the family in 2013. You can find him playing on any of the YardScapes sports teams, skiing, or camping in remote locations.
